This Alliant Power fuel supply pump is used on the 1998.5-2002 Dodge pickups with the 5.9L Cummins ISB turbo diesel engine. Simply remove the old lift pump and replace it with this one. It is designed with two bypass ports which allow fuel to freely flow to the injection pump if the supply pump motor fails. This free flow of fuel prevents the fuel from aerating which is a major cause of VP44 injection pump failures. The use of this updated lift pump eliminates the option for an expensive in tank feed pump installation which, when it fails, still allows aerated fuel into the injection pump which again causes injection pump failure.
